“Celebrity Home Decor” Get the look for less!

julee_ireland_celebrity_home_decor

As an Interior Designer, I get asked all the time for tips and tricks to achieve a celebrity home decor look for less. Well, you asked and now you shall receive! Here are a few simple tips and tricks that you can incorporate into your own home to get a Celebrity Home Decor Look for Less!  You can get the same look that you see in lined in the pages of your favorite home decor magazines without breaking the bank. Here are a few of my favorite products and shopping spots to help you along the way!

Wall Pops Nuwallpaper- Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian have been known to use expensive designer wallpaper as an artistic accent in a room in their home. Designer wallpaper prices start at around $300 a roll and go up from there which means it can cost thousands of dollars to add wallpaper to just one wall in your home. I love Wall Pops Nuwallpaper because they provide a great way to get a celebrity look for less with their removable wallpaper in an array of eye-catching designs and patterns. Now, you don’t have to pay a fortune to achieve a great look that’s right on trend! Wall Pops Nuwallpaper is removable so if you get tired of the look in a year or two and want a change all you have to do is peel it off and replace it with a new Wall Pop Nuwallpaper design. It’s that simple! They’ve got you covered with patterns and colors to suit everyone’s style and something for every room of your home from the babies nursery, to your living, dining, bedroom and bath and more! The best part is the price of $49.99 a roll. Now we can all afford to decorate our walls just like a celebrity! www.wallpops.com
Downlite- Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez spare no expense when it comes to Hotel style down bedding for their stylish homes. If you’ve ever experienced a luxury hotel and the luxurious comfort and feel of the bedding then you understand why it’s well sought after by the rich and famous to incorporate into their own homes. I love Downlite because their affordable prices allow you to get the look and feel of celebrity high-end luxury hotel bedding in your home without breaking the bank. Downlite has been manufacturing down and feather bedding, pillows and sateen sheet sets for over thirty years. The quality, look, hand of the fabrics and prices are amazing! Prices start at $20 and up. Coupon Code for viewers = SOC0011, 20% Off your purchase Offer expires 8/31/16 www.downlite.com
White Sheepskin Rugs-White sheepskin rugs and animal skins have always been a chic celebrity look but as an animal lover I can’t bear to use the real thing or to pay the high price tag that they carry! The technology of fabrics and rugs has come a long way as scientists and manufacturers have learned how to assimilate designer looks using synthetic fibers. Now you can find alternative sheepskin rugs that give you the same celebrity luxurious feel and look without the high price tag at stores such as Home Goods, Target, Amazon.com and more! Prices start at $19.99
Accent Lamps and Shades-The three G’s Gold, Glitz and Glam are hallmark traits of every celebrity home that you will find in accent lamps, to upholstered furniture and accessories. Celebrities have the bank account to afford expensive designer looks but let’s face it not all of us can afford to purchase designer accessories for our home. I love JCPenney because they have great designer looks for every room in your home without the high price tag attached. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create the same celebrity designer looks and ambience in your home. Bring the three G’s into any room in your home with a lamp or lampshade to create a fabulous focal point at a fraction of the price that celebrities spend. I love this chic celebrity Gold lamp and chevron design lampshade look that I found at JcPenney for under $200. It’s Gold, it’s Glitzy and it’s oh so Glam! www.jcpenney.com
Monogram Status-What’s not to like about the look of a nice monogram towel, robe or sheet set? Celebrities love to take this age old custom designer look and apply it to their own homes. I think they like to see their name in lights as much as they like to see their initials on white towels or linens. While it’s true that Mongram items such as towels, sheets or accent pillows have always been a luxury and a sign of status in society for the rich and famous it’s also true that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve this status quo for yourself. Since mongram items are usually custom made it can cost a pretty penny to purchase them for your own home. I have great news! You can find an array of monogram towel sets, accent pillows and more for a fraction of the cost online and at stores such as Target and Amazon.com. Now you can also dress up your home just like a rock star and have money to spare for your next big soriee!
DIY on the FLY- Here’s a little celebrity design tip secret-Shhhh…Celebrities often pay their designer thousand’s of dollars to stage their library with beautiful books. What most people don’t know is that their designer has created the look by covering their books with beautiful gift wrap or handmade paper. I will show you how it’s done! It’s so simple anyone can do it and it’s a great way to put old wrapping or wallpaper to good use while creating a celebrity look for your own book shelves.

How To Incorporate Love Into Your Home Year Around

Love is not just for Lovers or just meant to be shared on Valentine’s Day. You can incorporate Love into your life and home year around. Here are four simple tips that include some of my favorite products that I shared on the Studio 10 Live Tampa show to help you out!

Julee_Ireland_Love_Home
1. First Impressions are everything! The entry to your home is your first impression and it’s the perfect place to set the tone for Love. People tend
to glance to the right as they enter a home so it’s a great place to display a beautiful table with an open bowl or a
family or couples portrait on the wall holding hands, sharing a kiss or family hug. Remember, if you enter a home
with a feeling of Love, you will exit with Love.
2. Candles, candles, candles. I love Naturally Bare Reiki Infused Organic Soy Candles- Out of our five senses, the strongest is our
sense of smell. Scents remind us of people, places, and life experiences that we love. A scent has the ability to
transcend us to another time and place. Placing candles or essential oil room fragrance throughout your home in
various scents that fit the mood that you wish to evoke in each room, is a great way to connect your sense of smell
to your heart and home. You can easily create feelings of happiness, harmony, tranquility and Love. Lemon and
Orange is uplifting, Lavender is calming and is known to relive stress, Eucalyptus promotes balance, and Vanilla
or Ylang Ylang is alluring and romantic.
3. Surround yourself with Blossoms! I love Spring in the Air Luxury Roses (2 dozen Roses fresh from the grower in Colombia to your doorstep!)
There’s no better way to bring instant love into any room in your home than through a vase of fresh, fragrant,
colorful flowers. Choose a vase that fits the look and feel of your room and use a variety of seasonal stems that
match your accent color in your room to brighten your space year around.
4. Meaningful Word Art by Wayfair- Surround yourself with Love at home by displaying meaningful art,
photos, books, or words to remind you daily of the things that matter most in your life. Make your home a gallery
filled with Love.

I hope you enjoyed some of these simple and easy tips to bring Love into your home year around. Remember to Love Yourself and show your love for others by spreading kindness.

DIY Wall of Hearts-Coat Hanger Wall Art

Coat Hanger Heart Wall Art

I love to take something I find around my house and reinvent it to turn it into something giving it new purpose. With a closet full of wire coat hangers I thought I would turn them into heart to create and adorable wall art to place next to a photo gallery of my daughter and I in my home. It’s simple, inexpensive and full of handmade character. Here’s how you make them!

Supplies: Wire coat hangers, Pliers, String, Fabric or Trim of choice (yarn, lace, twine, burlap, ribbon, fabric,
trim, lace etc.), Hot glue gun, Spray paint (optional) Small command hooks, nails or picture frame hooks (as you
desire.)
Step One: Use your pliers to cut off the curved loop at the top of the hanger. Spray paint your hanger your desired
color (optional).
Step Two: Bend and manipulate the wire hanger into a basic heart shape. The twisted part of the hanger (which
was once at the top) becomes the bottom point of the heart shape. Don’t worry about making your heart perfect.
“Perfection is in the imperfection” and the imperfection is what makes it interesting and gives it an organic feel.
Step Three: Choose a material that comes in long strands – yarn, lace, twine, ribbon, burlap, etc. Secure one end
of your material to the bottom of the heart with hot glue. Then, stretch the strand across the shape and secure on
the wire with a dot of glue. Continue to crisscross the strand back and forth across all areas of the shape, securing
with glue along the way. When the entire heart is filled in with overlapping lines, snip off the remaining material.
Step Four: When you are finished making all of your hearts, lay them out on the floor to decide how you want to
arrange them on your wall. Lastly, hang them up using one or two small nails or small Command hooks for each
heart. You can also use one as a Valentine’s Day wreath for your front door.

I hope you had fun making this simple project to create wall art for your home. I think this would be really cute to use as an embellishment to gift packaging for any occasion. How cute would these be for a baby shower gift using fabric?  You can watch my DIY on the FLY video tutorial here: https://youtu.be/X-AGhbZluzQ Don’t be afraid to get creative! I would love to hear your comments and feel free to email me your contact information along with photographs of your coat hanger hearts to be considered as a feature on my blog and social media. Enjoy! xo

Home Interiors with the Pantone Color of the Year Marsala

I Love the Pantone color of the year Marsala!

I’m obsessed with the Pantone color of the year Marsala!

The color that you surround yourself with in your home sets the tone for your living space. People often forget that their walls are just as important as their furnishings. Your walls are a canvas and when they’re perfectly balanced together with your furnishings, lighting and accessories they create a masterful painting that reflects your personal style and taste. Our home is our haven. That’s why I love Tempaper removable wall paper! From a design standpoint, it’s the perfect way to revitalize and incorporate the Pantone color of the year, Marsala, into any room in your home. Tempaper is self-adhesive, removable wallpaper that eliminates the need for paste or water. Simply remove its backing and adhere to a smooth, primed and painted surface. Just peel off to remove! It’s fun, has an amazing pattern and color selection and it’s easy to remove when you want to try something new! Add Tempaper to just one wall or your entire room. Prices range from $75 to $125 a roll.

As a designer I really love storage ottomans. Especially ones with multiple functions like this one from Kohl’s. This is not your ordinary storage ottoman, it also has a built in removable tray table on the reverse side of its lid! It serves multiple purposes and incorporates the Pantone color of the year Marsala into your home decor at the same time. It provides extra seating, storage and can be used as a service tray, tray table or side table. $129.99

I always say, “Lighting is the jewelry for your home” because it is! It does much more for your home decor than light your way across the room; lighting brings with it, color, vibrancy, shape and texture helping to set the tone and mood for your room. I love the simplicity of the round design elements and the rich Marsala color of Irene lamp by Safaveigh found at Wayfair. It comes as a set of two lamps 31”H x 14”Wx14”D making is a nice overall scale for side tables, nightstands or the office. It also has a maximum wattage of 100 which, allows for a nice bright light if you need it. As a designer, Wayfair has always been a great source for finding unique products at an affordable price for my clients.  It’s truly a one-stop-shop to finding everything that you need for your home or office with designer looks for less. Wayfair’s Price for the Irene lamp set of two is $159.99.

A decorative accent bowl serves more than one purpose and is a great way to bring a punch of color and design into your room. It’s a great investment because it’s what I call a double duty decor item. What I mean by that is that it looks great as a decorative display piece in a cabinet, on a book shelve or table and at the same time it’s a great way to serve food in for your guests at your next dinner party. I found this beautiful accent bowl in white and Marsala at Home Goods for only $12.99!

Have fun incorporating the Pantone color of the year Marsala, with its rich tone into your home!

Home Interiors Styled in the Spirit of Red, White and Blue

Jason-Bell-living-room

The month of July is when we celebrate our country’s independence. Homes across America gather their family and friends for backyard barbeques with a red, white and blue, stars and stripes theme reminiscent of our country’s flag; ending the evening with a bang through a dazzling display of fireworks. I love to decorate with red, white and blue because of its classic, regal historical look and feel. It’s never passé to show your patriotic colors and it’s easier than you think to capture the spirit of Independence Day year around in your home. Here are some simple tips to decorate your home and pay tribute to our red, white and blue flag with style year-round.

The family room is the beating heart of every house. It’s where family and friends culminate to spend time together making it the perfect place to display your patriotic home décor. Create a focal point in your room by painting a wall your favorite shade of red and accent with blue and white. Find a stark white paint for your other walls and incorporate a blue or white sofa, chairs and coffee table that compliments your scheme. Let the red stand out on your wall and bring a few accessories into the room in shades of red through books, flowers, and frames or American flags.

All-American-Kitchens-Red-White-Blue-2While the family room is the beating heart, the kitchen is the pulse to your home. If there’s something cooking there will be someone looking, so this really is one of the most important rooms in your house when it comes to design. We spend a lot of time in our kitchen so you need to love its look, layout and function. I adore a red, white and blue kitchen because of its simple, clean appeal. White cabinets are a must! They can make a small kitchen appear larger and make the space feel open. Try using a solid blue countertop, white subway tile backsplash and add red accents to the room through your lighting, countertop appliances, flowers, dinnerware, or window coverings. Think about using a collection of small flags on wooden dowels in a white vase as a patriotic table centerpiece.

Your guest bath is a really fun place to express personality and create a conversation piece for your guests at the same time. So when it comes to the guest bath I love to think outside the box. Make a patriotic statement with blue pattered walls, stark white trim and red-hot accessories. Consider using wallpaper or fabric in a classic toile or pattern colored in red, white and blue. Use a contrasting color from the main color on your walls to paint your trim a bold color of red or blue. Or keep your walls a stark white or hue of blue and add a bold punch of red through your lighting, sink or toilet.

combination-of-various-patterns-and-prints-in-blue-white-and-red-for-a-plush-bedroom

When it comes to decorating a bedroom it doesn’t have to be all stars and stripes. Try using checker and dot patterns of red, white and blue to bring a charming and whimsical patriotic feel to your space. American country antiques, hooked rugs or classic red, white and blue quilts look stunning and are all timeless depictions of our countries history. Consider repurposing old furniture pieces to make them new again by adding a patriotic touch painting them in rich hues of red or blue. Remember that lighting is the jewelry to your home and this is also an important way to incorporate red, white and blue into your room.

Shelf-CompleteAccessorizing each room in your home is the glue that ties your design together. It’s not something that you can do overnight but it’s important and fun to collect the right pieces a little bit at a time. Here’s one fun idea to think about in your search for household accessories to tie in nicely with a red, white and blue American theme. Collect flags for different eras and display them throughout your home as wall hangings or use them to make pillows or blankets with flag inspired motifs. This is something that the whole family can enjoy collecting together as you shop or travel. Just think you will be creating your own historical American museum in your home that can be passed down for generations to come.

Enjoy celebrating our Country’s Independence Day with your family and friends but most importantly, enjoy capturing the style and spirit of our freedom year-round in your home.

How to Create an Art Gallery Wall

Gallery-Wall

Photo Credit: Liz Fourez of Love Grows Wild (lovegrowswild.com)

Creating the perfect art gallery wall in your home may seem like a difficult and daunting task but with a little pre-planning it’s really quite simple. Here are my step-by-step tips and instructions to make a masterful gallery for your wall showcasing your favorite artwork and family photos.

Step 1: Collect your supplies. To bring your gallery wall to life you will need a few basic tools to help you complete the task. Here is a list of the basic supplies that you will need. A pencil, nails, newspaper or butcher paper, scissors, painter’s tape, hammer, measuring tape and a level. Now you are ready for step 2!

Step 2: Select, gather and organize. I love an eclectic yet cohesive mix of artwork and photos hung on the wall. It’s important that the frames and content relate to one another to constitute a collection that will tell a story. Get creative. You can frame anything from photos, magazines, letters, artwork, famous quotes, works of music or pages from your favorite book with the same theme and color palette to make your wall visually appealing. Tip: Frame all your artwork and photos with one to two complimentary colors and use a variety of different sizes and shapes of frames to add contrast and texture to your gallery wall.

Step 3: Frame to layout. Now that you have decided which artwork and photos you would like to use and framed them all so they look like a collection its time to decide on the perfect layout for your wall. Using the floor space in front of your gallery wall start by putting down your favorite or largest piece in the center. Begin arranging your artwork around your center anchor piece and work your way out. Keep moving things around and experimenting until you like the way it looks. This really is a matter of personal taste and there is no right and wrong. Just follow your instinct on what looks best to you. Tip: Keep a few inches of space between each frame to keep them close. A gallery wall is all about finding an organized balance in complete disarray.

Step 4: Layout to Wall. Now that you have your layout designed take your newspaper or butcher paper and use your pencil to trace an outline of each frame creating individual templates, use your scissors to cut them out and then number them starting with your center piece as number 1. Use your tape measure to find the center point or points where your nail(s) will go for each piece of framed artwork or photo and pencil it in on your templates. Find the center of your wall and tape your center anchor piece template centered on the wall. Tape the rest of your templates on the wall keeping them close together in the same numbered sequence you laid out on the floor. Take your hammer and a nail and pound a nail through your template following your drawing. Remove the templates from the wall and replace them with your actual artwork and photos. Use your level to make sure your artwork is hung straight. Tip: You can use cut outs of fabric, decorative paper or knick-knacks in and around your artwork to fill space and add another dimension to your wall.

There are no exact guidelines or rules to creating a picture perfect art gallery wall so embrace your life’s journey, showcase what makes you feel good and have fun with it! I would love to see your completed gallery wall and to post it on my blog and social media!  Please e-mail photo’s to me at juleeireland@gmail.com.

Let Color Punch in a Room

As a designer I am passionate about mixing the old with the new. I also love to use a simple white or neutral palette and then add a strong punch of color and pattern as an accent to a room. These are both great examples demonstrating how to do that! Notice how the designer also added the yellow accent to the wall on the built in bookcase? It’s the little details like this that take design to a whole new level and bind color to your space.  The details make an ordinary room, extraordinary quickly turning it from Drab to Fab! LOVE it!!
