“Celebrity Home Decor” Get the look for less!

julee_ireland_celebrity_home_decor

As an Interior Designer, I get asked all the time for tips and tricks to achieve a celebrity home decor look for less. Well, you asked and now you shall receive! Here are a few simple tips and tricks that you can incorporate into your own home to get a Celebrity Home Decor Look for Less!  You can get the same look that you see in lined in the pages of your favorite home decor magazines without breaking the bank. Here are a few of my favorite products and shopping spots to help you along the way!

Wall Pops Nuwallpaper- Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian have been known to use expensive designer wallpaper as an artistic accent in a room in their home. Designer wallpaper prices start at around $300 a roll and go up from there which means it can cost thousands of dollars to add wallpaper to just one wall in your home. I love Wall Pops Nuwallpaper because they provide a great way to get a celebrity look for less with their removable wallpaper in an array of eye-catching designs and patterns. Now, you don’t have to pay a fortune to achieve a great look that’s right on trend! Wall Pops Nuwallpaper is removable so if you get tired of the look in a year or two and want a change all you have to do is peel it off and replace it with a new Wall Pop Nuwallpaper design. It’s that simple! They’ve got you covered with patterns and colors to suit everyone’s style and something for every room of your home from the babies nursery, to your living, dining, bedroom and bath and more! The best part is the price of $49.99 a roll. Now we can all afford to decorate our walls just like a celebrity! www.wallpops.com
Downlite- Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez spare no expense when it comes to Hotel style down bedding for their stylish homes. If you’ve ever experienced a luxury hotel and the luxurious comfort and feel of the bedding then you understand why it’s well sought after by the rich and famous to incorporate into their own homes. I love Downlite because their affordable prices allow you to get the look and feel of celebrity high-end luxury hotel bedding in your home without breaking the bank. Downlite has been manufacturing down and feather bedding, pillows and sateen sheet sets for over thirty years. The quality, look, hand of the fabrics and prices are amazing! Prices start at $20 and up. Coupon Code for viewers = SOC0011, 20% Off your purchase Offer expires 8/31/16 www.downlite.com
White Sheepskin Rugs-White sheepskin rugs and animal skins have always been a chic celebrity look but as an animal lover I can’t bear to use the real thing or to pay the high price tag that they carry! The technology of fabrics and rugs has come a long way as scientists and manufacturers have learned how to assimilate designer looks using synthetic fibers. Now you can find alternative sheepskin rugs that give you the same celebrity luxurious feel and look without the high price tag at stores such as Home Goods, Target, Amazon.com and more! Prices start at $19.99
Accent Lamps and Shades-The three G’s Gold, Glitz and Glam are hallmark traits of every celebrity home that you will find in accent lamps, to upholstered furniture and accessories. Celebrities have the bank account to afford expensive designer looks but let’s face it not all of us can afford to purchase designer accessories for our home. I love JCPenney because they have great designer looks for every room in your home without the high price tag attached. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create the same celebrity designer looks and ambience in your home. Bring the three G’s into any room in your home with a lamp or lampshade to create a fabulous focal point at a fraction of the price that celebrities spend. I love this chic celebrity Gold lamp and chevron design lampshade look that I found at JcPenney for under $200. It’s Gold, it’s Glitzy and it’s oh so Glam! www.jcpenney.com
Monogram Status-What’s not to like about the look of a nice monogram towel, robe or sheet set? Celebrities love to take this age old custom designer look and apply it to their own homes. I think they like to see their name in lights as much as they like to see their initials on white towels or linens. While it’s true that Mongram items such as towels, sheets or accent pillows have always been a luxury and a sign of status in society for the rich and famous it’s also true that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve this status quo for yourself. Since mongram items are usually custom made it can cost a pretty penny to purchase them for your own home. I have great news! You can find an array of monogram towel sets, accent pillows and more for a fraction of the cost online and at stores such as Target and Amazon.com. Now you can also dress up your home just like a rock star and have money to spare for your next big soriee!
DIY on the FLY- Here’s a little celebrity design tip secret-Shhhh…Celebrities often pay their designer thousand’s of dollars to stage their library with beautiful books. What most people don’t know is that their designer has created the look by covering their books with beautiful gift wrap or handmade paper. I will show you how it’s done! It’s so simple anyone can do it and it’s a great way to put old wrapping or wallpaper to good use while creating a celebrity look for your own book shelves.

Home Hacks to Declutter and Get Organized for 2016

IMG_3661

Studies show that clutter and disorganization cause stress and can lead to depression. That is no way to start off the New Year!  Here are some of my favorite DIY Home Hacks to get organized and get off to a good start in 2016!

1. Dreaded Dresser Drawers-Dresser drawers especially socks, under garments and t-shirts always seem to find themselves in pure chaos.  I’ve got a great solution for you! It worked for me so I’m sure will work for you. Here is Home Hack number one to reclaim your dresser drawers and start the New Year off on the right foot! Use PVC pipe to create storage units for drawers and closet to keep your shoes, undergarments, socks, t-shirts and anything else that will fit in them in a neat orderly fashion. You can also use PVC pipe to hold your shoes or to keep your office supplies organized!

2. A Clean Slate For Your Clothing and Closet-We are all guilty of holding onto clothing that we no longer wear because we think we will wear someday soon.  The fact of the matter is that if you have not worn it in the last six months you most likely will not wear again.  Rather than hold onto things that you really don’t need I have the perfect Home Hack to help you make room for something new and retire the rest to a new home by donating your old clothing to your charity of choice.  Here’s Home Hack number two.  Hang all of your clothing hangers in your closet backwards. As you wear an item rehang it the correct way. Every six months remove any items hung backwards and donate them.   I promise, if you have not touched it in 6 months you are not going to wear it and it is just taking up space.  It does the heart good to donate. You can also take your items to a consignment shop so you can earn some money for your unwanted clothing.

3. Disheveled Linen Closet- Sheet sets have a way of separating themselves from their mates just like socks.  I don’t know about you but it was always a source of frustration for me trying to maintain my linen closet and keep things together and organized until I thought of a creative way to solve the problem.  Here is Home Hack number three. It is so simple and it works! You are going to love it! All you have to do is store your sheets inside their matching pillowcase to keep everything neat and organized as a set and to save space at the same time!

4. Simplified Desk Drawers-Part of what makes us most productive in life and at work is having a little organization. It all starts with your desk and desk drawers.  It is really easy for your desk drawers to become a junk drawer and we don’t want that. Here is Home Hack number four to help you start your year off headed straight toward success.  And you can start by creating an orderly and efficient desk! Use old ice trays, boxes or silverware trays to line the inside of your desk drawers and create compartments to keep all your office supplies neat and organized!

5.  DIY on the Fly by Julee Ireland-Jewelry Organization and Wall Art
It’s easy to loose jewelry and if it is not in sight you will forget that you have it and it will never get worn.  Trust me. I have been guilty of this also. Here is a great Home Hack and DIY project that you can do to create a chic wall hanging to display your jewelry as wall art, while keeping it organized at the same time! All you have to do is use an old frame and some radiator mesh. Here’s how you make it!
IMG_3664
Supplies:

Old Frame, Hot Glue Gun, Radiator Sheet Metal, Fabric, decorative paper or photo, Sharpie pen, Scissors, Picture Frame Hanging Kit, Paint and Four Door Knobs (optional)

Step One: Take apart your frame and remove the glass and backing. Paint your frame your desired color or leave it with its current finish.

Step Two: Lay your glass on top of your radiator sheet metal and trace an outline with your sharpie pen. Cut along your traced line with your scissors.

Step Three: Use your frame back as a template on top of your fabric, decorative paper or photo and use your Sharpie pen to trace and outline. Cut along your traced line with your scissors.

Step Four:  Use your hot glue gun to glue your fabric to your backing. If you use decorative paper or a photo a glue stick will do the trick!

Step Five:  Use your hot glue gun to glue your radiator mesh to the inside back of the frame.

Step Six: Install your fabric frame backing to your frame behind your radiator sheet metal.  Optional: Install two to four doorknobs spaced evenly across the bottom of your frame to hang your necklaces.

Step Seven: Install your picture frame hanging kit if your frame is not already equipped with picture frame hooks.  You are now ready to hang and organize your jewelry on your wall as wall art!

I hope you enjoy these great tips and have fun making your own unique jewelry organization hanging wall art. I would love to brag about you on my blog so feel free to send me before and after photos of your projects along with your name and email address.  Happy New Year!

Spooktacular Halloween Party Ideas

Halloween_decorating_tattoo_target_michellemoney_party_kids_Julee_ireland_GoodThingsUtah_2

Decorating pumpkins each year is something the whole family looks forward to but let’s face it, Mom or Dad does most of the work because sharp objects, such as a carving knives, are not exactly cut out for kids. That’s why I fell in love with the Spritz Pumpkin Craft Kits! Now you can put the craft paint and supplies out on the table and your kids can decorate their very own pumpkin with ease! This is also a great craft activity idea for a school or church party to keep the kids busy. Each kit comes complete with all of the self-adhesive supplies that you need to decorate your pumpkin. The best part is the price-$3.00 for the simple kits such as a bat, witch, fox, owl or cat and $5.00 for a few of the more elaborate decorative design kits which are perfect for Adults. Now, let’s head to the pumpkin patch in search of the perfect pumpkin to use with your Spritz pumpkin craft kit!

Planning the perfect party always begins with the perfect party theme. I love Halloween and dressing up in a costume but I am not into the horror aspect of it. I would rather decorate with bright colorful colors or happy jack-o-lanterns. I ran across some of the cutest party decor this year at Target and I especially love the bright colored Day of the Dead party themed plates, napkins, cups and more. You also can’t beat the price! They start at $1.00 and go up to $2.50, so it’s affordable. My advice, get there early before they are sold out and enjoy the party! Price $1.00 to $2.50

Thank goodness for cameras! They help us to preserve our memories in photographs and when it comes to Halloween and our children, family, and friends we want to capture every one of lifes moments. I love the current party trend of using photo props and photo backgrounds, so naturally, I could not resist the Spritz photo kit that I found at Target either! From Batman, to Frankenstein to Dracula lips this photo prop kit will have everyone howling with laughter as you snap photos at your party. Get it now while supplies last! Price $5.00

Playing dress up is not just for kids when it comes to Halloween. I love to go all out when putting together a creative costume, which for me usually includes some face paint, and it’s not always easy to do on yourself. Target has a new craft section and I found these amazing temporary face tattoos that are quick and easy to do. I also love the fact that I can use clothing from my own closet to create a complete costume look! For the spider face I can wear all black or for the deer I can outfit myself in brown and so can you! The real icing on the cake is the price, at only $3.00. Now you can get creative and join in on all of the Halloween fun without spending a lot of money. I don’t know about you, but three dollars for a costume is just fine by me!

I would love to see photos of your Halloween party decor and share them on my blog and social media. Feel free to e-mail them to me at juleeireland@gmail.com. Have a Spooktacular and Safe Halloween!

Home Interiors Styled in the Spirit of Red, White and Blue

Jason-Bell-living-room

The month of July is when we celebrate our country’s independence. Homes across America gather their family and friends for backyard barbeques with a red, white and blue, stars and stripes theme reminiscent of our country’s flag; ending the evening with a bang through a dazzling display of fireworks. I love to decorate with red, white and blue because of its classic, regal historical look and feel. It’s never passé to show your patriotic colors and it’s easier than you think to capture the spirit of Independence Day year around in your home. Here are some simple tips to decorate your home and pay tribute to our red, white and blue flag with style year-round.

The family room is the beating heart of every house. It’s where family and friends culminate to spend time together making it the perfect place to display your patriotic home décor. Create a focal point in your room by painting a wall your favorite shade of red and accent with blue and white. Find a stark white paint for your other walls and incorporate a blue or white sofa, chairs and coffee table that compliments your scheme. Let the red stand out on your wall and bring a few accessories into the room in shades of red through books, flowers, and frames or American flags.

All-American-Kitchens-Red-White-Blue-2While the family room is the beating heart, the kitchen is the pulse to your home. If there’s something cooking there will be someone looking, so this really is one of the most important rooms in your house when it comes to design. We spend a lot of time in our kitchen so you need to love its look, layout and function. I adore a red, white and blue kitchen because of its simple, clean appeal. White cabinets are a must! They can make a small kitchen appear larger and make the space feel open. Try using a solid blue countertop, white subway tile backsplash and add red accents to the room through your lighting, countertop appliances, flowers, dinnerware, or window coverings. Think about using a collection of small flags on wooden dowels in a white vase as a patriotic table centerpiece.

Your guest bath is a really fun place to express personality and create a conversation piece for your guests at the same time. So when it comes to the guest bath I love to think outside the box. Make a patriotic statement with blue pattered walls, stark white trim and red-hot accessories. Consider using wallpaper or fabric in a classic toile or pattern colored in red, white and blue. Use a contrasting color from the main color on your walls to paint your trim a bold color of red or blue. Or keep your walls a stark white or hue of blue and add a bold punch of red through your lighting, sink or toilet.

combination-of-various-patterns-and-prints-in-blue-white-and-red-for-a-plush-bedroom

When it comes to decorating a bedroom it doesn’t have to be all stars and stripes. Try using checker and dot patterns of red, white and blue to bring a charming and whimsical patriotic feel to your space. American country antiques, hooked rugs or classic red, white and blue quilts look stunning and are all timeless depictions of our countries history. Consider repurposing old furniture pieces to make them new again by adding a patriotic touch painting them in rich hues of red or blue. Remember that lighting is the jewelry to your home and this is also an important way to incorporate red, white and blue into your room.

Shelf-CompleteAccessorizing each room in your home is the glue that ties your design together. It’s not something that you can do overnight but it’s important and fun to collect the right pieces a little bit at a time. Here’s one fun idea to think about in your search for household accessories to tie in nicely with a red, white and blue American theme. Collect flags for different eras and display them throughout your home as wall hangings or use them to make pillows or blankets with flag inspired motifs. This is something that the whole family can enjoy collecting together as you shop or travel. Just think you will be creating your own historical American museum in your home that can be passed down for generations to come.

Enjoy celebrating our Country’s Independence Day with your family and friends but most importantly, enjoy capturing the style and spirit of our freedom year-round in your home.

Money Saving Decorating tips for 2015

I love the fresh start that a new year brings.  In my book, change is good and that includes altering your living environment, breathing new life into it. This year add, “home makeover” to your new year’s resolution list and make subtle changes turning a room from drab to fab quickly, setting the tone for a brilliant new year! Here are my top five money saving decorating tips for 2015

1. This year take the time to go room by room and collect things that you don’t wear, use, or absolutely love and donate them to a local charity.  Eliminate clutter from your countertops, cabinets, cupboards, and dressers by putting away what you don’t use on a daily basis. This simple task will easily change the look of any room without having to spend any money.
2. The mantel is always the center of attention in a room. Instead of the traditional mirror, piece of artwork, or a family portrait try using three smaller works of art to create pattern and a new interesting focal point in your room.
3. Change your accent color to give each room a renewed look. Start by finding a color that you love, then change out your accent pillows and accessories in the same color scheme to rejuvenate the look of your room. Purchase a colorful rug or runner, which can also help to anchor your space. Try painting your chairs and picture frames, or even swapping out the seating of your chairs. Don’t worry about having everything match exactly; it’s much more interesting to see a color in varying hues combined with pattern.

4. Lighting is essential and it’s “the jewelry” for each room, yet it’s often given the least attention. It sets the tone for your space just as an invitation does to a party.  Make your room more inviting by changing out a lampshade with a splash of color or pattern or replace a tired fixture with something new. You can also add dimmer switches to create mood lighting throughout your home.
5. Add some plants to your space.  You don’t have to have a green thumb to add some greenery to your room. Consider using succulents. They provide texture, color, and require very little maintenance. An occasional spritz of water will do.  Consider using larger silk potted plants – they’re beautiful, realistic, and carefree.  Plants bring new energy to a room and are often in decorative pots, adding both texture and a design element. Nature’s botanical color palette fits with any environment and offers an inexpensive way to create harmony in any room.
Make it your new year’s resolution to breathe new life into your home in 2015! After all, change is good.
